Who administers the R&D Tax Incentive?
The R&D Tax Incentive is managed collaboratively by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and AusIndustry, Department of Industry, Science, Energy, and Resources.
How much can I claim back?
Under the R&D Tax Incentive program, businesses can reclaim up to 43.5% of their eligible expenses. It’s crucial to consult with R&D experts to ensure your claims are accurate and not overstated.
What expenditure can I claim back?

How can I find out if my business is eligible?
To qualify for the R&D Tax Incentive, your company must meet several criteria:
- Have incurred eligible R&D expenditures of at least AUD $20,000.
- Be an Australian company or an overseas company with a legitimate Australian branch.
- Have conducted eligible R&D activities, such as hypothesis-driven experimentation.
Can I claim eligible activities overseas?
Claiming overseas activities is possible. You would need to apply for an Advanced Overseas Finding from the Industry Research and Development Boards before the end of the financial year. Doing this is a lengthy process. To find out more about overseas eligibility, speak to our team of experts.

When is the cut-off date for claiming the previous financial year?
Businesses can still claim for up to 10 months after the financial year, 30th April.
