About Helen

Helen grew up in a coal mining village in South Wales, United Kingdom, where her love for singing, rugby, and passionate debate was nurtured early on. As a teenager, she performed on stage at the Royal Albert Hall in London during the School Proms—an experience that reflects her lifelong enthusiasm and confidence.

She went on to study Civil and Structural Engineering at the University of Plymouth, earning a BEng (Hons) and building a successful career as a Structural Façade Engineer in Central London and later with Arup in Australia.

Driven by a sense of adventure, Helen took a sabbatical to travel across Africa—an experience that changed the course of her life. Captivated by the continent, she became an overland tour guide, exploring vast stretches of Southern and Eastern Africa. During this time, she met her South African husband, and together they settled in Knysna, South Africa, where they owned and managed a thriving forest guest lodge for 11 years.

Managing her own business inspired Helen to deepen her understanding of finance and operations, leading her to study and gain Bookkeeping and Accounting qualifications. This new expertise proved invaluable in running the lodge and later shaped her professional journey.

In 2020, Helen and her family emigrated to Australia, navigating the challenges of COVID-19 quarantine and restrictions. Since then, she has worked in practice accounting and bookkeeping, providing end-to-end financial management and business advisory services across a diverse client base. Known for her high-level customer service, analytical thinking, and practical problem-solving, Helen combines technical expertise with the hands-on insight of a former business owner—helping clients bring clarity and structure to their finances so they can focus on what they do best.

Outside of work, Helen loves travelling, cooking, and camping in the great outdoors, continuing her lifelong passion for exploration and adventure.
